  • A standard nomination call is made by the Province for a Provincial team.
  • An angler, who submits a nomination to their Province by the Provincial deadline, but who is not selected for the Provincial team, even though they meet all the criteria for the tournament, may then be eligible for a Barbarian team.
  • The Provincial Secretary or Provincial Chairman should then contact the SADSAA Tournaments Officer and the Chairman of the Hosting Province, giving them details of the available angler(s).
  • Once any and all available angler details are received, the make-up of the specific Barbarian teams will be decided on by the SADSAA Tournament Officer and the anglers’ Provincial chairmen, and the team captains chosen by the same.
  • The SADSAA Tournament Officer or the National Convenor of Selectors may, at their discretion, contact a current SADSAA or Protea angler (regardless of whether they nominated through their Province for the specific tournament or not) in order to complete a Barbarian team, should there be insufficient anglers submitted for consideration by Provinces, provided that the Tournament Officer shall inform the relevant Provincial Chairman of his decision before announcing the team.
  • The teams will be announced to the Provincial chairmen, and the notification must state who the angler will be representing (Provincial, SADSAA or Protea)
  • Anglers fishing as a part of a barbarian team will be representing their Province, SADSAA or Protea Masters, and will dress in accordance with their Provincial, SADSAA or Protea Clothing Code. In other words, their highest colours.
    –  i.e. if an angler nominated for their Province, but was not selected, and following the process, they form a part of a Barbarian team, they then wear Provincial colours (regardless of whether they have SADSAA or Protea colours already)
    – If an angler, as a current SADSAA or Protea angler, is call on by SADSAA to make up an incomplete Barbarian team, the angler would wear their SADSAA or Protea colours.
  • Anglers fishing as a part of a barbarian team will receive full credit on their fishing CVs, and will be eligible for medals.
  • If an angler is to fish under his Provincial Colours, prior permission must be granted by their Provincial Body.
  • If an angler is to fish under SADSAA or SADSAA Masters, prior permission must be granted by the SADSAA Action Committee.
  • All anglers selected for Barbarian teams must be current, and must be in good standing with his club, province and with SADSAA, and must not have pending disciplinary action either by their club, Provincial Body, or SADSAA.

This may be especially relevant when nominations are only submitted after the close of the SADSAA office on the final date for submission.
  • Completed Nominations are to be emailed to the SADSAA Admin Office (admin@sadsaa.co.za) for attention of the National Convenor of Selectors by the due date and time called for.

Minimum criteria for first Protea Colours nomination

  • Paid up member of a club and Province affiliated to SADSAA and in good standing with his club, province or SADSAA.
  • One (1) x SADSAA Cap in facet nominating for Protea.
Anglers nominating for their FIRST Protea Colours must have at least one (1) SADSAA cap in the facet that the angler is nominating for Protea Colours in.
For example, if the angler wishes to nominate for:
    – ILTTA Sailfish Internationals, the angler must have SADSAA Colours for Light Tackle Billfish
    – Hawaii Billfish International Billfish Tournament, the Angler must have SADSAA Colours for Heavy Tackle Billfish
For the 2nd Protea Cap, the angler must be Current for the Facet they are nominating in.

9. CURRENT SADSAA & PROTEA ANGLERS

  • All anglers who nominate for SADSAA, SADSAA Masters or Protea colours must be current.
  • Current for a SADSAA or Protea angler means they must have represented their Province or SADSAA at an Interprovincial, National or International tournament within twenty four (24) months of the date that nominations close.
  • Selectors and Skippers in National and Inter Provincial tournaments will also remain current, if doing duty in one of these areas prevented them from participating as an angler during the past two years. However, this provision cannot be used twice to stay current, and the angler will have to fish in an Interprovincial, National or SADSAA team to be considered current again.
  • Once Protea colours have been obtained, anglers may nominate for SADSAA Masters or Protea Colours in their own, and other facets, without going back to SADSAA Colours, provided they are current in that facet.
  • SADSAA Convenor of Selectors, may, at their discretion, contact a current Protea angler (regardless of whether they nominated through their Province for the specific tournament) in order to complete a SADSAA Masters team, should there be insufficient nominations received.

10. ANGLERS MOVING BETWEEN PROVINCES

  • Club Members are allowed to belong to more than one province but can only nominate to fish for one Province during a calendar year. Individual club members are allowed to move from one province to another province, but may not nominate for their new Province for a period of one year (365 days) from the date of joining their new Province.
    – This is not applicable to anglers that relocate residence to a new province: they are eligible to fish for the new Province immediately.
  • Should the member already belong to another Province, they cannot nominate for that province within one year (365 days) of having nominated for or represented their previous Province, whichever is the later date.
  • This ruling is not applicable to anglers that already have SADSAA and Protea Colours, if they are nominating for a SADSAA or a Protea team. However, it is applicable if they nominate for an Interprovincial or a National team for their new Province.
    – This is not applicable to anglers that relocate residence to a new province: they are eligible to fish for the new Province immediately.
